Our History:
A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Community
Zotter’s Ski Shop (1963–Late 90s)
The roots of our pro shop trace back to Karl Zotter, an Austrian skier who immigrated to Canada in 1953. After working part-time for Jozo Wieder, he opened Zotter’s Ski Shop in 1963. Known for exceptional customer service and meticulous hand tuning, Zotter’s became a trusted fixture for local skiers for more than three decades.
Rick’s Pro Ski Shop (2001–2012)
When Mr. Zotter retired after 35 successful years, Rick Sims—a skilled ski mechanic from the Blue Mountains—reopened the shop in 2001. Rick continued Zotter’s tradition of tuning every pair of skis by hand and maintained the shop’s reputation for quality, honesty, and service.
Rick’s Pro Ski Shop (2012–Present)
In 2008, a 13-year-old skier named Brody Nickels visited the shop to have his boots fitted. His genuine, thoughtful personality made such an impression on Rick that he hired him on the spot.
Three years later, Rick offered Brody the opportunity to run the shop, making him the youngest business owner in Collingwood at just 17. Brody chose to keep the name “Rick’s” to honour his mentor and preserve the shop’s legacy.
Zotter’s Legacy Continues
Today, Brody carries forward the same hands-on craftsmanship that began with Karl Zotter more than half a century ago. The tradition of expert, hand-finished ski and snowboard tuning remains at the heart of everything we do.
